About Twitter DevelopHer India (2021)
Eligibility: 2nd and 3rd-year female students studying in India.
Application procedure: Simple procedure asking for a resume and LinkedIn profile. The applications open around August-September every year.
Out of the 9,000+ applicants they had this year, 30 students were selected for the final #DevelopHer program.
We experienced two fun-filled days with Tweeps from India and Singapore, having a fireside chat with the women leaders, learnt about how they build at Twitter, about inclusion and diversity at Twitter, a talk delivered by the director of Twitter India, a team coding challenge which was so much fun, and also a TriviaTime challenge which I actually won :)
Why do I think my application stood out?
Since the application for #DevelopHer only asks for our resume and LinkedIn profile, I tried to do as much as I could to get noticed by the recruiters (although I feel there's a huge luck factor as well since only 30 out of 9,000+ people were taken).
They are looking for girls who are highly active in STEM, and have either past internship experience or really good open-source contributions.
Apart from updating my Linkedin profile and my resume, some of the additional things that I did:
- I reached out to previous year scholars, i.e. girls who were selected for Twitter DevelopHer 2020 (last year) and took their advice.
- On the basis of the advice received, I created a Twitter account (8 months before the applications opened) and constantly posted about women in tech-related opportunities, and eventually added my Twitter handle link in my resume for DeveloHer’s application.
- I also recorded a video resume and added that link to my resume (This is another piece of advice someone on Linkedin gave me, that it's always good to record yourself in a 1-minute short video introducing yourself and explaining why you deserve to attend that event and why they should select you).
We also got some of the coolest swags! Very thoughtful gifts, and I absolutely love them!
All in all, it was a beautiful experience, and very inspiring to hear from the senior leaders (especially women) at Twitter!
All the best! Keep Learning!
